KAISER PERMANENTE | PHYSICIAN PROFILE SERIES
Healthcare Video Production | Physician Interviews | Southern California
The Project
Helping Patients Find the Right Doctor
Kaiser Permanente Southern California commissioned Big Bite Films to produce a series of approximately 100 physician profile videos designed to help patients get to know their doctors before selecting a healthcare provider.
Each video introduced a physician's medical expertise, approach to patient care, personal background, and interests outside of medicine. The goal was to move beyond traditional physician biographies and give patients a more personal understanding of the doctors they might choose for their care.
Filmed across Southern California, the series required a consistent visual style and an efficient production approach while ensuring that each physician's individual personality and perspective came through.
The Creative Challenge
Bringing Authenticity to Physician Interviews
One of our biggest challenges was helping physicians feel comfortable and natural on camera. Although they received their scripts in advance, many were understandably nervous when they arrived on set and encountered professional lighting, cameras, and a teleprompter.
We needed to create an environment where doctors could relax and deliver their messages conversationally, rather than appearing to read from a script. With six to eight physicians scheduled for each shoot day, we also had to maintain an efficient production schedule without making anyone feel rushed.
Equally important was finding what made each physician unique. Beyond their credentials and specialties, we wanted patients to understand their motivations, personalities, and philosophies of care, creating a genuine sense of connection before the first appointment.

Our Creative Approach
Finding the Person Behind the White Coat
Our creative process began well before filming. We developed a series of questions for Kaiser Permanente to distribute to participating physicians, covering their medical backgrounds, approaches to patient care, personal motivations, and interests outside of work. Using their responses, we crafted individual scripts that preserved each physician's voice while creating a consistent structure across the series.
On set, we worked with a small, nimble crew consisting of a producer/director, director of photography, and lighting/camera assistant. Using a single-camera setup with a teleprompter, we filmed six to eight physicians per day, maintaining a consistent visual style while adapting our direction to each doctor's personality and comfort level.
Directing the physicians was especially important. We took time to help them relax, coached them through their delivery, and adjusted phrasing when necessary to make their presentations feel natural and conversational. We complemented these interviews with footage of physicians interacting with patients, providing a more authentic glimpse into their approach to care.
One particularly memorable example was Dr. Elizabeth Manios, an internal medicine physician in North Hollywood. She shared how growing up with immigrant parents who faced language barriers in healthcare inspired her to become a physician. Her commitment to helping patients receive care in the language they're most comfortable with gave viewers insight into both her professional philosophy and the personal experiences that shaped it.
By combining thoughtful script development, sensitive on-camera direction, and natural patient interactions, we created a collection of physician profiles that felt personal and approachable while maintaining the professionalism and consistency expected of a major healthcare organization.
The Patient Experience
Building Connections Before the First Appointment
The physician profile series was created to help Kaiser Permanente members make more informed choices when selecting their doctors. By hearing physicians discuss their backgrounds, care philosophies, and personal interests, patients could gain a better sense of who they might feel comfortable working with.
For Big Bite Films, the project demonstrates our ability to manage large-scale healthcare video production while maintaining the personal attention needed to bring out authentic performances. Across approximately 100 physician profiles, we combined efficient production with individualized storytelling to help humanize the patient-provider relationship.
